I really appreciated your piece, especially the part where you got in the car and drove away. I also have no relationship with my parents. I have a brother, but since he still keeps in touch with them, I see him rarely and we don’t have a very deep bond. It took me many years to become independent enough to cut ties, and as you said, it’s not easy. I found myself completely on my own, but every day I give myself credit for how I managed to pull myself out of certain situations, and I’ve become much more compassionate toward myself.

Thanks for being vulnerable and sharing. 💜

I don't *really* talk to my parents or my little sister. The first set were a bit of absentee parents. Little sis I have to hold at a distance and limit contact because...she's a lot (in the mental health kinda way). It's what works for me and I kind of knew since sixth grade that I wanted to move far away from my sh*t town. And I got what I wanted, but not without a lot of pain.

Your writing inspires me to write. I just gotta figure out what. I have a big thing on my mind, but I don't want to risk making the situation worse by sharing publicly.
